Skanderborg Region
Skanderborg is an idyllic town built mainly around the Northern shores of Skanderborg Lake. The population of this town is around 18,000.
The main fishing is accessed from the 170 road and turn left into some woodland around 1 mile out of town. Here you are straight on the shores of the lake. This area is known as the match length as it is where the Embassy matches used to held in the late 1980's and 1990's. There are usually around 10 pegs that are constantly is use and require no work to make fishable. Walking further along the bank towards the campsite there are lots of areas where a little work could have you fishing in 15 minutes or so at the edge of the reeds.
The first thing that will hit you is the size of this lake. From the match stretch you can only see less than half of the lake!
In seasons gone by there have been some huge weights of Bream and Roach from this area. All methods used to catch fish. A pole to hand used to be a favoured tactic feeding lots of ground bait with worms and casters.
Over the last 5 - 10 years I have noticed a reluctance of the fish to come anywhere near the shoreline. The water used to be quite murky in colour. Over the last few years it has been like tap water. These conditions will not fill the fish with confidence to feed.
The method here now seems to be a huge cast with a feeder. I have witnessed some Dutch anglers have a lot of success with equipment beefed up for this kind of fishing.
I have to admit it is not really my cup of tea. Casting into the distance only to spend 5 minutes reeling in if you miss a bite!

The one thing that does not fail to impress is the landscape. Even if you are not catching fish, standing at the edge of the reeds watching a tip is wonderful place to be. Link to fishing Skanderborg below. You can also get licenses from here.

There is also fishing on the other side of the lake. The 445 road leaving Skanderborg runs along side of the lake. You will see some pegs in the reeds where you can fish.

NB - on the other side of the 170 road just prior to the match length on your right is a track. Follow this for half a mile and you come to a lovely little lake. This lake is full of big Roach with some Bream. There are lots of Pike also. Due to its size there is only room ideally for 3 - 4 anglers.

There is another lake next to the football pitch just as you leave Skanderborg on your right side. This is actually connected to the main lake and is the main spawning area for the Roach and Bream. Try here in late April and May. You do need chest waders here as a priority as you must be in the water under over hanging trees. Some huge weights have come from this small lake.

To the East of Skanderborg is the small town of Stilling around 4 miles on the 170 road. Just as you enter Stilling turn right onto 'Gramvej' road and an immediate left onto 'S0vejen'. The lake is 400 meters along this road.
This is a huge lake that runs for a few miles and is probably 1/2 a mile wide.
The most popular fishing place on this lake is to park on your right in a small layby as soon as you come to the lake. Cross the road and fish here and around to the left hand side up to the jetty through the woods which is no fishing.
This whole bay is very deep around 8 - 10 meters. Take care here as the drop off is very close to the bank!
Fishing with the feeder is the main tactic but also the slider and pole to hand can produce. There are a lot of Bream here and lots of very big Roach.
