Silkeborg region fishing map
Fishing in Silkeborg
The city lakes offer some fantastic all round fishing primarily for Roach and Bream.
These are large open expanses of water that are very open to the elements. The city side of the lake is very open with no trees for any shelter from the wind.
Under normal circumstances the feeder will dominate on these lakes.

In the 1990's these lake were fished very often by visiting anglers from the UK, Holland and Germany and there reputation grew for large bags of pristine fish. As the town of Silkeborg has been modernized over the last 10 years it is fair to say it is now rare to see any anglers fishing this area. No fishing from the pontoons.

Above the town centre bridge there are fountains in the lake. This area is still a good area for Bream but patience is required to get the fish into your peg. Depths here are around 2 1/2 meters on the feeder line. Fish can be caught on the waggler but this lake is open to the elements and nearly always has a wind on it with undertows making presentation difficult. The banks are rocky but they make for quite comfortable fishing. Very short walks here, as there is a car park very close by.

The island area which is not really an island as you see on the map, again used to be a prolific location. Today it is a bit of a walk and once you get there you will be faced with clearing a peg. From memory this is also quite a shallow area with depths up to around 1 - 1.5 meters on the feeder. There are easier areas than this to fish unless you really are prepared to put in the time and effort.

Opposite the island above the bridge on the city side is what is called the Graveyard stretch. Parking here is quite near bye. Fishing is in the reeds so waders are essential. This has always been a prolific stretch and today is no different. The area still gets well fished and produces some fantastic weights regularly. The feeder normally dominates here but fish again can be caught on the waggler. Wind conditions will normally dictate which methods will be successful on any given day. Today this is probably the number one area on the town lakes.

Going out of the town on the '15' road towards Herning you will go past the lakes on your left. Just after the bridge that splits the 2 lakes you can park on the grass verge. A 200-yard walk here will have you on the lake. Some very comfortable pegs here on grassy banks with some fishing into the reeds on the right side. This is not normally an area that throws up huge bags but if you are after a comfortable days fishing where 20 - 30 Kilos is on the cards then give this a try. It is quite shallow 11/2 - 2 meters and you can catch on the Pole, Waggler and feeder here. The wind is normally over your head.

To the far side of this lake on the opposite bank left corner there is good fishing. Parking is at the top of the wood accessed via a slip road. Walk through the wood and you come to the lake. Pegs are usually well fished and chest waders are needed to fish at the end of the reeds. Good Bream catches have come from this area in the past. A 50-meter cast with a feeder should find the fish.

A Silkeborg region-fishing permit is required to fish in any of lakes and rivers in the Silkeborg region. These can be bought online or from the tourist board located at Søndergade 2B, 8600 Silkeborg, Denmark.
